After a surprisingly goalless first half, the hosts exploded into action after the break. The floodgates opened when Michael Olise was brought down inside the box, earning France a crucial spot-kick. Stepping up to the mark, Real Madrid's prolific striker, Mbappe, coolly chipped the ball straight down the middle, outfoxing goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin who had already committed to a dive.

However, Ukraine might have felt a tad hard done by, as they believed they deserved a penalty just moments earlier. Despite VAR prompting referee Slavko Vincic to review Dayot Upamecano's challenge in the box, he ultimately upheld his initial decision to wave play on.

Mbappe continued to threaten, narrowly missing out on another goal twice, before Michael Olise found the back of the net himself, allowing France to truly relax. In the final stages, Mbappe sealed his brace with a close-range finish. This monumental goal wasn't just his second of the game, but also the 400th of his incredible career, bringing his international tally for France to 55 – just two shy of Olivier Giroud's all-time record of 57.

And with only two minutes left on the clock, Mbappe turned provider, unselfishly setting up Ekitike. The young forward slotted home with a clinical finish through the goalkeeper's legs, marking a memorable debut goal for France.

American sprinter Melissa Jefferson-Wooden achieved an incredible gold-medal sweep at the recent World Championships, but surprisingly, she's expressed that she's "not satisfied" with her performance.

Just over a year ago, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden proudly claimed a bronze medal for her third-place finish in the women's 100m sprint at the Paris Olympics. While the coveted title of "Fastest Woman on Earth" eluded her then, her infectious smile and vibrant energy were undeniable. Fast forward to September 21st of this year, and that radiant smile was back, but this time, the medal around Jefferson-Wooden's neck shone with an even more brilliant gleam. The South Carolina native had just secured her third gold medal at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, following stunning triumphs in the 100m, 200m, and by running the opening leg of the 4x100m relay. The sprint triple crown is, namely so, the jewel of track and field. Jefferson-Wooden’s name is instantly placed in the same stratosphere as some of the greats – the only other woman in history to achieve the feat in the World Championships is legendary Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Esteemed company, indeed.

West Ham, now managed by Nuno Espírito Santo, have struggled with inconsistency and remain vulnerable from set pieces, an issue their manager has admitted could weigh on the team psychologically if not resolved. The Gunners may be without Brazilian defender Gabriel, who picked up a minor knock during the week.
