Norway secures their first World Cup spot in 28 years.
Italy managed a late 2-0 win against Moldova on Thursday, a result that mathematically keeps their World Cup hopes alive. However, with just one game left, it's highly improbable they'll overcome Norway's vastly superior goal difference.
Early in their match against Estonia, Norway seemed to struggle, failing to convert crucial chances in the first half and putting their much-needed win at risk. But the tension broke in the second half when Sorloth headed in the opening goal, quickly followed by another clinical finish moments later.
Manchester City's star striker, Haaland, then joined the scoring spree. He powerfully headed in Julian Ryerson's cross for his first, before firing in a second goal just seven minutes later, effectively sealing the win. While Robi Saarma managed a consolation goal for Estonia with a driven effort, it did little to dampen Norway's spirits as they edged closer to their first World Cup appearance since 1998.
It appeared Norway's qualification would be confirmed on Thursday night, especially as Italy toiled for 88 minutes to score against Moldova despite racking up 30 attempts. However, late strikes from Gianluca Mancini and Pio Esposito mean Norway will have to wait a little longer for official confirmation.
