.In a powerful message released through Gboyega Akosile, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, President Tinubu lauded Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the event's sponsors. He called the championship a significant milestone for both clean energy and marine innovation, praising their efforts in bringing such a prestigious event to Nigeria.

Indeed, Lagos has officially carved its name in history as the first African city to join the elite E1 championship global calendar, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with iconic hosts like Monaco, London, Jeddah, and Venice.

"This championship isn't just a thrilling show on the water; it's a clear declaration of our intentions," Tinubu stated. He highlighted how the E1 Powerboat series brilliantly blends top-tier entertainment with groundbreaking clean energy technology, showcasing electric-powered vessels that are charting a course towards a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.

The President directly linked this exciting event to his administration's ambitious vision for the blue economy. He emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to building prosperity through renewable energy, flourishing marine tourism, and robust coastal infrastructure.

"By investing in our coastal areas, marine tourism, and renewable energy, we’re not only creating new jobs and opportunities for our youth but also solidifying Nigeria's standing in the global community," he added.

Tinubu, who proudly identified himself as a "proud Lagosian," asserted that the championship underscored Lagos’ reputation as a bold and forward-thinking metropolis.

He continued, "Lagos, Nigeria's vibrant cultural capital, the pulsating heart of our economy, and a true symbol of our resilience, is the ideal host. Its dynamic waterways and spirited people perfectly embody the essence of competition, creativity, and hospitality." He concluded by extending his commendation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, his dedicated team, and all partners, especially E1 and the event's sponsors, for their visionary hard work that made it all possible.

Meanwhile, at the opening ceremony held at the Lagos Boat Club in Ikoyi, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu shared that President Tinubu, who is currently in Lagos, was immensely excited about the event and planned to watch the final race on Sunday from his Ikoyi residence.

The inaugural day kicked off with a lively boat regatta, led by Governor Sanwo-Olu and other state officials, followed by exhilarating shakedown runs from the competing teams in preparation for the weekend's main races.

Sanwo-Olu reiterated that this competition was far more than just a sporting event; it was a powerful platform to showcase Lagos’ impressive capability to host world-class events and champion sustainability.

"For us in Lagos, the E1 Lagos GP the first of its kind in Africa is a fitting tribute to our sports-loving people and a government that understands the vital role sports play in human development," the Governor remarked.

He concluded, "The E1 Lagos GP is more than just a race; it's a celebration of Lagos' incredible dynamism. It’s the very Spirit of Lagos. Moreover, it stands as vivid proof of our growing influence and energy on the global stage."

American sprinter Melissa Jefferson-Wooden achieved an incredible gold-medal sweep at the recent World Championships, but surprisingly, she's expressed that she's "not satisfied" with her performance.

Just over a year ago, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden proudly claimed a bronze medal for her third-place finish in the women's 100m sprint at the Paris Olympics. While the coveted title of "Fastest Woman on Earth" eluded her then, her infectious smile and vibrant energy were undeniable. Fast forward to September 21st of this year, and that radiant smile was back, but this time, the medal around Jefferson-Wooden's neck shone with an even more brilliant gleam. The South Carolina native had just secured her third gold medal at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, following stunning triumphs in the 100m, 200m, and by running the opening leg of the 4x100m relay. The sprint triple crown is, namely so, the jewel of track and field. Jefferson-Wooden’s name is instantly placed in the same stratosphere as some of the greats – the only other woman in history to achieve the feat in the World Championships is legendary Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Esteemed company, indeed.
