Disney removes its channels from YouTube TV due to a financial disagreement.

Disney's perspective is that Google's streaming service, which is exclusively available in the US, refused to pay what they considered "fair rates" for popular content, which also includes National Geographic and the beloved Disney Channel.

However, YouTube TV countered this, stating that Disney's proposed terms were designed to "disadvantage our members while benefiting Disney's own live TV products."

Following some seriously tense negotiations, the channels abruptly disappeared from YouTube TV screens just before midnight on Thursday – the crucial deadline for a new agreement. This sudden blackout impacts a massive 10 million subscribers across the country.

To help ease the disruption, YouTube TV announced that if Disney channels remain off-air for an "extended period of time," affected subscribers would receive a $20 credit. It's worth noting that both YouTube TV and Disney's own Hulu are major players in the US online TV streaming landscape.

This isn't the first time YouTube TV has found itself in a tough spot this year. They've had similarly contentious discussions with other media giants who also threatened to pull their content from the platform. Just recently, Google managed to ink a last-minute deal with Comcast-owned NBCUniversal, ensuring fan favorites like "Sunday Night Football" stayed put. They've also successfully reached agreements with Paramount and Fox in the past few months.

While both Google and Disney have issued separate statements assuring viewers they're working towards a resolution, the core sticking point – those pesky fees – remains a major point of contention. Disney didn't hold back, with a spokesperson accusing Google (with its staggering $3 trillion market cap) of leveraging its market dominance "to eliminate competition and undercut the industry-standard terms we've successfully negotiated with every other distributor." YouTube, however, countered, claiming Disney was pushing for "costly economic terms" that would inevitably drive up prices for YouTube TV subscribers, limit their content choices, and ultimately boost Disney's own live TV products like Hulu+ Live TV.
