Grand Theft Auto 6 is postponed to November 2026 once more.
In a recent statement, Rockstar explained that these additional months are crucial to ensure the game meets the incredibly high standards of polish and quality that fans have come to "expect and deserve." It's a sentiment many understand, given Rockstar's reputation for delivering truly immersive worlds.
Speaking of Rockstar's legacy, it's worth noting that *GTA 5*, the current installment, hit shelves way back in 2013. Despite being over a decade old, it still commands a massive following thanks to its ever-popular online mode and holds the impressive title of the second best-selling game of all time.
Rockstar expressed regret for the extended wait, thanking fans for their immense patience. They also shared their "incredibly excited" to finally let players dive into Leonida, the game's fictional US state inspired by Florida, and explore a modern-day rendition of the iconic, Miami-esque Vice City.
However, this delay announcement comes on the heels of some significant news: the firing of 31 employees from Rockstar's UK studios on October 30. The Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB), which champions gaming sector employees, has accused Rockstar of dismissing UK staff to prevent unionization efforts. This sparked rallies outside the company's Edinburgh and London offices on Thursday, with the BBC reportedly seeking comment from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive.
Rockstar has remained notoriously tight-lipped about *GTA 6*, having only released two trailers thus far. The second, which dropped in May this year, quickly garnered over 100 million views. This nearly three-minute sneak peek offered deeper insights into protagonists Jason and Lucia, a criminal duo operating in Leonida, and unveiled a host of new characters and locations across the expansive map.
It's no secret that Rockstar has a history of delaying its major titles; they're known for their pursuit of perfection. Their previous blockbuster, *Red Dead Redemption 2*, saw its release pushed back by about a year. In today's gaming landscape, with players demanding ever-increasing complexity and scope, and development costs skyrocketing, publishers are understandably hesitant to rush out unfinished products.
When it eventually arrives, *GTA 6* is not only expected to be one of the most expensive video games ever created but is also poised to shatter launch sales records. The big question, though, remains: can it truly live up to the monumental hype? We'll just have to wait and see!
